About the Role
Support a high-performing national collections function and help drive positive financial outcomes. Heidelberg Materials Australia is seeking a motivated and experienced Assistant Collections Manager to join our finance team on a 6-month full time fixed term contract basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a collections professional looking to step into a leadership-support role within a large, dynamic organisation.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the daily management of the national collections portfolio, monitoring outstanding debt and implementing effective recovery strategies.
- Contact customers to negotiate payment arrangements, resolve account disputes, and recover overdue balances in a professional and ethical manner.
- Support the National Collections Manager in developing and maintaining collections policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Generate and analyze collections reports, identify trends, and recommend process improvements.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
- Partner with Sales, Customer Service, and other internal stakeholders to facilitate timely debt recovery.
- Manage escalated customer enquiries and complaints relating to collections activities.
- Provide guidance and support to junior team members as required.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, systems enhancements, and process efficiencies.
Requirements
- Proven experience in a credit control, accounts receivable, or collections environment.
- Strong knowledge of collections processes, debt recovery practices, and relevant legislation.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage difficult conversations while maintaining positive customer relationships.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and reporting.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel, and experience with financial systems.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team environment.
