About the Role
The Senior Biomechanist will work with engineering staff on human-injury impact analysis in vehicular accidents, accident reconstruction, and consulting for premises liability and slip-and-fall incidents. This role requires extensive experience in forensic biomechanical analyses, focusing on the relationship between accident modes and injuries. The candidate will evaluate biomechanical systems, assess accident causes, and reconstruct events. Familiarity with legal depositions and working with attorneys and claims adjusters is necessary. Experience building and maintaining rapport with external clientele, such as lawyers and insurance carriers, is also expected.
Responsibilities
- Inspect and measure vehicles.
- Provide expert testimony at trials, depositions, or other legal proceedings.
- Communicate investigative findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Use computer models to reconstruct accidents and measure load and injury levels.
- Conduct detailed inspections of vehicles and accident sites.
- Analyze crash sequences to identify contributing factors and induced loading on occupants.
- Review police reports, medical records, depositions, expert reports, legal pleadings, discovery documents, videos, and photographs.
- Perform simulations of vehicular collisions using advanced collision reconstruction software (e.g., PC-Crash).
- Evaluate the effects of impact forces on occupants in vehicular accidents.
- Determine human injury mechanisms in vehicular accidents and premises liability cases.
- Perform accident reconstructions for single-vehicle rollovers, impacts with fixed objects, and multi-vehicle collisions.
- Utilize engineering principles to calculate factors like impact speeds, collision forces, and trajectories.
- Compare calculations with crash test reports to correlate damages with calculated velocities.
- Review scientific literature to advance reconstruction techniques.
- Provide written conclusions of findings.
- Take an active role in marketing YA Engineering Services to clients and the forensic engineering community.
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience in biomechanics, accident reconstruction, and premises liability work or similar.
- Familiarity with automotive engineering and automotive control systems.
- Understanding of billable hours or project-based work.
- Experience collaborating with forensic animators to develop visual exhibits.
- Exposure to performing and evaluating computer simulations.
- Team-oriented with a strong passion for learning.
- Based in (or planning to relocate to) the job location.
