About the Role
Gaia is a consumer health company re-defining our experience with medicine. We are hiring a founding Head of Engineering to build the technical backbone of our personalized medicine platform, including patient and physician experiences, data infrastructure, and integrations. We prioritize patient trust, compliance as architecture, and high-quality systems.
Responsibilities
- Design and build the platform: backend, data infrastructure, and patient- and physician-facing web and app experiences.
- Develop integrations with pharmacy, clinical, diagnostic, and wearable partners.
- Establish HIPAA-first compliance architecture and standards for safe, effective AI.
- Hire and lead the engineering team, setting the engineering culture.
- Collaborate closely with product and design teams.
- Champion AI-native ways of working across the company.
Requirements
- 8+ years of engineering experience, including leadership and hands-on full-stack development.
- Production experience with sensitive or regulated data and third-party integrations.
- Proven ability to ship fast in zero-to-one environments, making deliberate build-vs-buy and technical-debt decisions.
- Strong product sensibility, collaboration with design, and clear written communication.
- Self-awareness, low ego, and the instinct to involve experts early.
- Healthcare experience (FHIR, e-prescribing, telehealth, wearables) is preferred.
- Shipped AI/LLM features are a plus.
- Must have patient-trust instincts.
