About the Role
The CGRS Refugee Leadership Program offers hands-on experience advocating for refugee rights in the United States, alongside professional development and networking opportunities. The program aims to incorporate the expertise of individuals with lived experience of forced displacement into CGRS's work, fostering mutual learning and strengthening refugee rights advocacy.
Responsibilities
- Participate in team meetings, projects, and initiatives aligned with interests.
- Lead a project shaped by personal interests and perspectives, contributing to CGRS's mission.
- Engage in activities such as research, advocacy, educational resources, storytelling, or community engagement.
Requirements
- Must have personally experienced forced displacement across borders.
- Must currently live in the United States.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
- Demonstrated experience with or commitment to at least one of CGRS’s core focus areas (Refugee and immigrant rights, Legal protections for survivors of gender-based violence, Advocacy related to climate-induced displacement, Pro se support).
- Comfortable working in English, including reading, writing, and speaking skills.
- Availability of 20 hours per month.
- Flexibility to attend various meetings during West Coast business hours (approximately 6 hours out of total 20).

Salary/Compensations
- Fellows will receive a $6,000 stipend disbursed in three installments.

About the Company
- The Center for Gender & Refugee Studies (CGRS) is based at the University of California College of the Law, San Francisco.
- CGRS provides legal expertise, training, and resources to attorneys representing asylum seekers.
- CGRS litigates cases before immigration courts, the BIA, and federal courts to protect individual refugees and the asylum system.
