About the Role

The Saratoga Regional YMCA is hiring for a LiveStrong Coach to support cancer survivors. This role requires addressing the unique needs of survivors, developing relationships, and handling protected health information with confidentiality and professionalism.

Responsibilities

  • Work with participants to address the whole person’s well-being, including spirit, mind and body.
  • Perform assessments of participants.
  • Deliver curriculum to class participants in effective, meaningful, and compelling ways.
  • Encourage group participation and interaction through exploratory facilitation.
  • Empower participants to find ways to make program goals fit their lifestyle.
  • Facilitate commitment and retention of participants.
  • Create a motivating environment that is friendly, welcoming, and nonjudgmental.
  • Foster relationships with and between participants.
  • Create a group exercise program that allows for individualization.
  • Determine starting reps, sets, weight, duration, and modifications/adaptations for exercise or equipment.
  • Teach and demonstrate utilization of equipment, correct exercise technique, and safety considerations.
  • Make minor adjustments to exercise programs as needed based on member adaptations/tolerance to activity.
  • Record data for each participant on required forms and enter into Welld.
  • Adhere to YMCA’s HIPAA policies and procedures and ensure participants’ protected health information is secure.
  • Participate in facilitator team discussions and professional development opportunities.
  • Connect with Program Manager regularly to update on program status and progress.
  • Deliver program to fidelity and ensure all protocols are followed.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of protected health information.

Requirements

  • Minimum age of 18 years old.
  • Additional paid trainings required upon hiring.

  • Ability to develop relationships with and among cancer survivors.
  • Ability to handle protected health information with confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Ability to teach and demonstrate utilization of equipment, correct exercise technique and safety considerations.
  • Ability to make minor adjustments to exercise programs as needed.

Work Type

  • Part-time

Education Level

  • Nationally Accredited Group Fitness or Personal Training Certification or a degree in the Health and Wellness field.

Salary/Compensations

  • $20.00/hour
