Responsibilities
- Evaluate changes to Accounting Standards Codifications (ASC), SEC regulations, and regulatory reporting requirements, communicating their impact on financial reporting.
- Analyze, research, and conclude on proposed company initiatives and completed transactions, preparing complex memorandums summarizing the impact.
- Liaise closely with external auditors and counsel on technical accounting and reporting issues, building strong collaborative relationships and open, transparent communication.
- Manage and review variable interest entities (consolidations) and current expected credit losses (CECL) processes.
- Assist in the review of SEC reporting requirements and participate in disclosure committee meetings.
- Lead or assist in the review of potential transactions, special projects, and other ad-hoc requests.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, documentation standards, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency.
- Train and review the work of accounting team members.
- Ensure SOX 404 compliance for areas of responsibility, including periodic updates to process narratives.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, focused in real estate or the mortgage industry.
- Strong understanding of US GAAP and technical accounting skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience researching and documenting the accounting treatment of complex transactions and disclosure guidance.
- Experience in application of ASC 810 – Consolidations and/or ASC 326 – CECL is a plus.
- Flexibility and willingness to pivot to new priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Hands-on professional with excellent judgment, interpersonal skills, and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Ability to coordinate projects within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage multiple initiatives.
- Ability to collaborate at all levels of the organization and across other functional areas.
- Strong computer skills, with experience leveraging advanced Excel functions, financial systems, automation, and generative AI to organize and analyze data and enhance productivity.
