About the Role
Ovadia Interior Design and Architecture seeks an experienced interior architect to lead drawing production and documentation for architecture and interior design projects, supervising a team of drafters.
Responsibilities
- Produce and oversee accurate plans, elevations, sections, reflected ceiling plans, and details in AutoCAD.
- Develop custom millwork, casework, and finish detail drawings in coordination with the design team and fabricators.
- Build and review SketchUp models for design study, client presentation, and dimensional verification.
- Prepare and issue drawing sets at schematic design, design development, construction documents, and revision phases.
- Supervise a team of drafters, assigning work and setting priorities and deadlines.
- Review and redline team drawings, providing feedback to improve quality.
- Conduct regular check-ins and drawing reviews, including with remote team members via video call.
- Serve as job captain, owning the completeness, accuracy, and consistency of drawing sets.
- Onboard and train new drafters on firm standards, templates, and detail libraries.
- Balance team workload and flag capacity and schedule risks to project managers.
- Coordinate drawings with architects, designers, and project managers to align documentation with design intent.
- Incorporate structural, MEP, lighting, and AV information into drawing sets and resolve conflicts.
- Conduct field measurements and site surveys, translating existing conditions into accurate base drawings.
- Respond to contractor RFIs and issue sketch clarifications during construction administration.
- Review shop drawings and submittments against documented design and note discrepancies.
- Apply and help maintain firm CAD standards, title blocks, layer conventions, and detail libraries.
- Perform quality checks before issuing drawings, including dimension strings, tags, schedules, and note accuracy.
- Ensure drawings align with applicable building code, accessibility, and NYC filing requirements.
- Contribute to improving templates and typical details.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in interior architecture, architecture, or interior design.
- 6 to 10 years of experience in an interior architecture or architecture studio with a strong construction documentation background.
- Experience supervising drafters or leading a drawing team, including remote team members.
- Expert level AutoCAD skills, including layer management, xrefs, blocks, and sheet set organization.
- Proficiency in SketchUp for modeling and dimensional study.
- Proven track record producing complete construction document sets from start through issue.
- Working knowledge of building codes, accessibility requirements, and construction detailing.
- Experience coordinating consultant drawings and resolving conflicts across disciplines.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to keep a distributed team aligned through follow-through.
- Experience with high-end residential work and custom millwork documentation (preferred).
- Familiarity with NYC DOB filing processes, Bluebeam markup, and Revit (preferred).
