About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Senior Software Developer to join the software and data science team within Network Software & Data Science. You will help design, build, and evolve the software platforms, services, and data products that enable advanced analytics, automation, forecasting, optimisation, and AI-driven decision making across our networks. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of software engineering, cloud infrastructure, data science, and AI, building scalable solutions that support critical business capabilities across Sky's fixed and mobile networks. The ideal candidate is a strong software engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, building cloud-native applications, and collaborating with data scientists, network experts, and product stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable software platforms, APIs, and analytical applications.
- Build cloud-native services that support analytical, optimisation, forecasting, and AI workloads.
- Collaborate with data scientists, data engineers, and network domain experts to translate business requirements into robust software solutions.
- Develop backend services and APIs using Python and modern frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, or Django.
- Design and implement containerised applications using Docker and Kubernetes.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines to enable reliable testing, deployment, and monitoring.
- Develop reusable platform components that improve developer productivity and operational efficiency.
- Contribute to data product development, including ingestion, transformation, model deployment, and visualisation workflows.
- Ensure software solutions meet security, reliability, scalability, and performance requirements.
- Support operational excellence through observability, monitoring, troubleshooting, and incident resolution.
- Contribute to technical design reviews, architecture discussions, and engineering best practices.
- Mentor junior developers and contribute to fostering a strong engineering culture.
Requirements
- Strong commercial experience developing software applications using Python.
- Experience with modern Python frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, or Django.
- Strong understanding of software engineering principles including testing, design patterns, maintainability, and code quality.
- Experience building and deploying applications on cloud platforms, preferably Google Cloud Platform (GCP), although AWS or Azure experience is also valued.
- Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and container orchestration.
- Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs and microservices.
- Strong understanding of CI/CD practices using tools such as GitHub Actions, Concourse, Jenkins, or equivalent.
- Experience working with Git-based development workflows.
- Understanding of data engineering and analytical workflows, including data ingestion, transformation, storage, and reporting.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively within agile, cross-functional teams.
- Experience building platforms or applications that support Data Science, Machine Learning, or AI workloads.
- Experience with MLOps tooling such as MLflow, Kubeflow, Vertex AI, or similar technologies.
- Knowledge of workflow orchestration platforms such as Apache Airflow.
- Experience with data processing technologies such as Pandas, Apache Beam, Spark, or similar frameworks.
- Strong SQL skills and experience with analytical databases such as BigQuery, PostgreSQL, or ClickHouse.
- Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, or OpenTelemetry.
- Experience deploying and supporting large-scale distributed systems in Kubernetes environments.
- Knowledge of graph analytics, network modelling, optimisation algorithms, or telecommunications networks.
- Appropriate right to work in the UK.
