About the Role
Provide quality patient-focused care to patients in the Emergency Department under medical directives or direct orders, working within an inter-professional collaborative model and under the supervision of a physician.
Responsibilities
- Conduct patient interviews and take medical histories
- Perform physical examinations and interpret findings
- Organize laboratory and diagnostic investigations
- Perform controlled acts under medical directives delegated by a physician
- Counsel patients on preventive health care
- Organize patient follow-up
- Perform other duties within competencies as a physician assistant
Requirements
- Graduate of the Physician Assistant Bachelors degree at McMaster University or the University of Toronto consortium
- Certified through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant
- Certified or eligible to be certified through the Physician Assistant's Certification Council
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Paediatric Advanced Life Support and Neonatal Advanced Life Support are mandatory
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and with respect in both a verbal and written format with patients, public, colleagues and other health disciplines
- Demonstrated competency to perform complete and appropriate clinical assessment and development of a treatment plan in accordance with medical directives
- Proven problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Ability to work in a collaborative medical model of care with all members of the health care team
- Satisfactory employment and attendance record
