About the Role

The Activity Specialist will plan, implement, and lead meaningful activities for youth aged 5-12 years old in the COMPASS Elementary after-school program. This role focuses on promoting positive youth development, fostering social and emotional skills, and encouraging leadership through engaging, hands-on learning experiences.

Responsibilities

• Plan, implement, and lead physical fitness/healthy living, hands-on learning, teambuilding, academic support, and/or STEAM and literacy enrichment activities.
• Work with Group Leaders and Youth Workers to implement program activities aligned with DYCD required content areas and embed social and emotional learning.
• Ensure the health, safety, and wellbeing of program participants through close supervision.
• Supervise, participate in, and administer recreational and educational activities.
• Promote an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment.
• Create and maintain a strength-based, youth-focused atmosphere sensitive to participants with learning, emotional, or behavioral differences.
• Prepare the learning environment, lessons, and necessary supplies.
• Adhere to all DYCD, DOHMH, CPC, and funder standards, expectations, and regulations.
• Attend required trainings, meetings, and professional development sessions.
• Complete at least 129 hours of professional development annually as required.
• Report to and fulfill other related duties as assigned by the Program Director.

Requirements

• Minimum High School Diploma/GED.
• Relevant experience required.
• Experience in a specific activity area such as art, dance, nutrition, or organized sports is required.
• Solid grounding in one or more relevant content areas and relevant teaching skills.
• Prior experience providing instruction to youth and/or leading youth activities is preferred.
• Current CPR/first aid/AED certification or willingness to complete within 6 months of hire.
• Must pass a full background check including fingerprinting, SCR, and DOHMH and PETS Clearance system.
