About the Role
The Team Captain partners with the General Manager to oversee the local coffee shop experience, ensuring a cohesive, efficient, and positive store environment. This role focuses on providing a genuine daily escape for customers, driving sales, and maintaining high standards of quality and cleanliness.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the local coffee shop experience and maintain a cohesive, efficient, and positive store environment.
- Ensure teammates are in the right place, doing the right things, at the right time.
- Act as manager on duty in the absence of the General Manager.
- Drive store efficiency and recognition to maximize sales targets and average customer spend.
- Understand and role model the Steps of Service, training and directing the team.
- Oversee waste management and inventory within the coffee shop.
- Provide feedback to management regarding staffing, product needs, customer requests, and issues.
- Assist in onboarding and development of new team members.
- Ensure teammates are performing to expectations and create action plans for performance needs.
- Drive sales through upselling and ensuring optimal team placement.
- Develop teams to continuously improve performance and reach goals.
- Provide regular feedback on team performance to management.
- Assist in ordering appropriate stock levels.
- Report supplier issues to management in a timely manner.
- Follow systems to avoid wastage of food and beverage product.
- Ensure proper handling of food and beverage product to retain freshness and quality.
- Maintain accurate product knowledge and ensure team members follow specifications, including portion control.
- Act as the first point of contact for customers, displaying optimism and energy.
- Communicate and interact with customers using clear and enthusiastic language.
- Build strong connections with customers to foster repeat business.
- Understand the local community, trends, and competition.
- Participate in projects to increase average check, daily sales, operational profitability, and develop a loyal customer base.
- Regularly clean and restock condiment stations, clear and wipe down tables and counters.
- Support the management of cleaning schedules and ensure deep cleans are performed regularly.
- Maintain DOH standards and ensure proper protocol is followed daily.
- Complete store opening and closing procedures accurately and efficiently.
- Ensure expectations are met in all areas of the store regarding safety, cleaning, storage, ordering, and sanitation.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in hospitality.
- At least one year of supervisory experience.
- Ability to work in a high-pressure, fast-paced work environment.
- Well-organized and detail-oriented.
- Experience using a Point of Sale (POS) system.
- Desire and ability to lead, communicate, and train team members.
- Accreditation with the Department of Health for Food Protection Certificate.
- Bluestone Lane Barista Accreditation.
- Strong interpersonal, leadership, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 40lbs.
