About the Role

The Hearing Instrument Specialist Trainee is a customer service expert responsible for managing administrative and clerical tasks related to clinical operations. The role involves progressing to become a licensed Hearing Instrument Specialist.

Responsibilities

  • Educate patients on the proper use and maintenance of hearing aids.
  • Provide follow-up care to ensure patient satisfaction and assist patients with concerns.
  • Schedule appointments with Audiologists or Hearing Instrument Specialists.
  • Respond to walk-in patient needs.
  • Liaise with hearing aid vendors and manufacturers on behalf of patients and staff.
  • Assist with hearing aid fittings and follow-ups, including paperwork, use and care, Bluetooth pairing, and insertion.
  • Assist with the delivery and review of ear mold and custom ear plug insertion.
  • Support audiologists with testing, including remote support and equipment setup.
  • Clean, service, and maintain hearing systems, identify faults, perform simple repairs, and escalate issues as needed.
  • Manage shipping and receiving of items, including tracking information.
  • Update medical records for assigned devices.
  • Document inventory and stock for devices, conduct inventory reviews, and anticipate clinical needs.
  • Ensure fiscally responsible ordering, particularly regarding shipping costs.
  • Enter charges and collect payments for services and items.
  • Document all patient encounters and communications in the medical record.

Requirements

  • Associates degree or 60 credit-hours required.
  • 2-3 years of experience in a customer service setting.
  • Proficient computer skills, including practice management software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with patients, staff, and healthcare professionals.
  • Consistent professional conduct.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and critical thinking skills.
  • Positive attitude.
  • Desire to be a life-long learner and grow in the position.
