About the Role

As a Hydrologist, you will be an integral part of our wider Water Resources and Flooding sub-sector, contributing to Mott MacDonald’s centre of excellence for responding to water and wastewater challenges. You will work on diverse and technically challenging projects at the forefront of ensuring safe water supplies and protecting our environment. The role involves providing hydrology and climate science services, innovating to predict the impact of climate change on water availability and flood frequency, and supporting major UK water companies and international hydropower projects.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct low flow assessments and water systems modelling to define water availability during droughts.
  • Estimate future climate variable changes using global or regional projections.
  • Perform flood hydrology studies, incorporating the impact of climate change.
  • Undertake hydropower feasibility studies, including defining design floods and verifying energy generation.
  • Conduct climate change risk assessments of assets or portfolios.
  • Develop skills in project management and business development by engaging with water sector and regulatory framework clients.

Requirements

  • Proven track record in the field with a passion for learning and innovating.
  • Relevant degree-level qualification (e.g., hydrology, geography, mathematics, civil engineering, or related discipline).
  • Knowledge of low flows hydrology, including rainfall-runoff modelling or applying UKCP18 and CMIP5/6 projections to climate change impact assessments.
  • Willingness to innovate.
