About the Role
Join a nationally recognised brand and play a key role in delivering high-quality financial reporting and supporting a major transformation journey. We’re looking for an experienced Senior Financial Accountant to join O’Brien on a 12-month fixed-term contract, partnering across Finance and the business to drive accuracy, insights, and continuous improvement. Reporting into the Finance leadership team, you will take ownership of key financial reporting processes while supporting a large-scale IT transformation. This is a hands-on role where you'll balance technical accounting, stakeholder engagement, and team leadership.
Responsibilities
- Lead the preparation of statutory accounts, year-end audit, and tax compliance (income tax & FBT)
- Support and strengthen the financial control framework during an ongoing IT transformation
- Perform month-end close, including balance sheet reconciliations and variance analysis
- Own and deliver accurate balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring timely resolution of discrepancies
- Partner with stakeholders to drive accurate accruals and month-end outcomes
- Prepare and analyse the 14-week rolling cash flow forecast
- Take ownership of the stock accounting process, including forecasting and variance analysis
- Collaborate across Finance, including AP, AR, commercial teams, and branches
- Mentor and support a small team (1 Accountant, 2 Assistant Accountants)
- Drive process improvements and best practice financial discipline across divisions
Requirements
- CA/CPA qualified
- Degree in Accounting, Commerce, or related discipline
- 5+ years’ experience in a similar financial accounting role
- Strong understanding of financial reporting, controls, and compliance
- Proven ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Strong analytical mindset with a proactive, solutions-focused approach
