About the Role

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) seeks an exceptional academic physician and leader to serve as the Chief of the Hospital Medicine Service. This role involves programmatic oversight, faculty recruitment and development, and shaping strategic priorities for the Service, aligning with MSK's mission to end cancer. The Hospital Medicine Service provides comprehensive inpatient medical care 24/7 to adults living with cancer, specializing in oncology hospital medicine.

Responsibilities

  • Provide programmatic oversight and responsibility for the Hospital Medicine Service and its faculty.
  • Support the recruitment and professional development of faculty.
  • Develop programs that align with MSK’s strategic plan.
  • Shape the strategic and programmatic priorities for the Service.
  • Oversee clinical operations, talent acquisition and retention, research, philanthropy, professional development, mentorship, and teaching.
  • Partner with and support physicians across multiple services in the Department of Medicine and other Departments at MSK.
  • Collaborate with colleagues from Nursing, Case Management, Pharmacy, and Social Work.
  • Investigate new strategies for diagnostics, management of complications of novel therapeutics, and care delivery innovation.
  • Grow the research portfolio, potentially emphasizing diagnostics and therapeutics, risk assessment, care delivery innovation, implementation science, and pragmatic trials.

Requirements

  • Board certification in internal medicine.
  • Eligibility for licensure in New York and New Jersey.
  • A vision for how hospitalist and nocturnist skills can support MSK’s strategic plan in clinical care, research, and education.
  • National recognition as a program leader, educator, and/or a funded program of clinical, translational, or population science research in relevant content areas.

  • The Hospital Medicine Service is comprised of an outstanding team of 47 faculty, including daytime hospitalists and nocturnists.
  • The Hospital Medicine Service faculty are internal medicine trained and board-certified, with some holding additional board certification in hospice and palliative medicine.
  • The Hospital Medicine Service is home to the top-ranked transitional year residency, the rotating internal medicine residency, and the internal medicine chief residency program.
  • MSK's inpatient footprint will experience rapid growth in the coming years, with the Kenneth C. Griffin Pavilion adding an additional 206 inpatient beds in 2030.
  • Programmatic growth is also expected in observation status, transitional care, and novel programs to reduce readmissions.
