About the Role
Hadrian's Data Analytics team builds and owns the semantic layer that every dashboard, board metric, and AI Analyst answer at Hadrian resolves to. This team ensures metrics are consistent across all factories and dashboards, forming the foundation for operational intelligence at scale. You will architect and own this critical layer, partnering closely with Data Platform Engineering, Data Analysts, and business domains.
Responsibilities
- Architect and maintain the certified dataset layer in dbt, including models, tests, documentation, and SLAs.
- Build well-modeled, context-rich datasets to power self-service analytics, operations research, and LLM-based data apps.
- Define metric standards, including canonical definitions, calculation logic, ownership, and refresh cadence.
- Implement canonical data models and semantic layers that scale from 1 to 20+ factories.
- Partner with Data Platform Engineering to harden the unified data platform and set standards.
- Partner with OR Scientists and Data Scientists on feature-set prep and model-output stores.
- Evaluate and recommend analytical tooling (BI platforms, notebook environments, metric layers).
- Define analytical-engineering standards for naming, testing, CI/CD for the dbt project, and documentation.
- Mentor Data Analysts to drive consistency and governance across datasets.
Requirements
- Production ownership of data models (years scale with level).
- Expert SQL (window functions, CTEs) with a strong grasp of query performance and cost.
- Experience shipping production data pipelines with Spark, dbt, and Dagster or equivalents.
- Strong data-modeling foundation (normalization, denormalization, star/snowflake schemas).
- Familiarity with lake and warehouse internals (columnar stores, Iceberg catalog, partitioning, materializations).
- Experience building semantic layers with dbt, Snowflake, or Databricks.
- Proficiency in Python for reusable pipeline and data-app utilities.
- End-to-end ownership with a quality bar that does not stall progress.
