About the Role
The Operations Manager - Hauling is responsible for managing collections activities for commercial, industrial, and residential customers, including container delivery and pickup, within a geographically dispersed area. This role manages a team responsible for the route system and works with the General Manager to execute local market strategy, drive functional excellence, and achieve budget targets. The manager oversees collections operations, safety programs, compliance, and change management initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Manages staff, including hiring, training, coaching, and performance management.
- Develops supervisory goals and objectives and resolves safety issues and claims.
- Implements and executes plans to support the business unit’s strategic and operating plan.
- Champions tactical initiatives to maximize customer experience, growth, and profitability.
- Ensures maximum productivity and effective route management for all customer types.
- Establishes productivity goals and ensures adherence to operating standards.
- Manages labor hours and disposal expenses.
- Interacts with customers and government employees to resolve concerns and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Oversees safety and accident prevention programs to ensure a safe work environment.
- Implements and maintains effective loss control and safety programs.
- Leads operations to ensure compliance with all environmental, operating, regulatory, safety, accounting, and ethics standards.
- Approves expenses and manages the operations department budget.
- Develops a high-performing team and workplace culture, managing performance and talent development.
- Drives best-practice sharing.
- Builds and maintains strong relationships with government, community, and environmental groups.

Experience Level
- Minimum of 2 years of supervisory or management experience or participation in Republic Services’ management trainee program.
