About the Role

The Swimming and Diving Head Coach/Aquatics Director is responsible for conducting a comprehensive, high quality NCAA Division I athletic program within the guidelines of all rules and policies established by the department, the institution, the Conference, and the NCAA. This includes assessing, implementing, and evaluating strategies to enhance team and individual athletic and academic performance in accordance with the stated mission of Le Moyne College and the Athletic Department. This Head Coach is charged with creating an environment advancing the “Inside the L” culture of wholistic personal growth and development of the student-athlete. Additional responsibilities include serving as the College's Aquatic Director and management of all swimming pool activities.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, implement and evaluate strategies that enhances team and individual performance.
  • Provide timely and constructive individualized feedback for student-athlete improvement.
  • Prepare individuals and the team for competition, focused on high-level performance and sportsmanship.
  • Submit all paperwork, schedule meetings and respond to all information requests from athletic trainers and team physicians according to guidelines and deadlines established by the Head Athletic Trainer.
  • Coordinate with Peak Performance Team (Strength and Conditioning, Sports Medicine, Nutrition, Mental Health) on the conduct of a comprehensive training program to enhance both personal and performance growth/development.
  • Work with appropriate personnel to determine needs for the organization, coordination, and scheduling of all home and away contests including: facility and equipment set-up, officials, scorekeepers, statisticians, media considerations, lodging, meals, travel arrangements, etc.
  • Conduct program in compliance with all applicable NCAA, conference, and institutional policies, rules and regulations.
  • Ensure timely submission of all compliance related work flows through ARMS to maintain the highest levels of integrity and transparency.
  • Maintain open and responsive communications with the Athletics NCAA Compliance Department.
  • Maintain up to date certification in all required areas (NCAA DI Institute Modules, 1st Aid/CPR/AED Training, Etc).
  • Submit all budget requests, documentation, receipts and related forms and paperwork, according to existing policy and established deadlines.
  • Monitor all budgets as they relate to your program.
  • Stay within budget allocations.
  • Account for all money related to the program, including fund raising, camps, clinics and special events.
  • Comply with College and department fiscal guidelines and policies.
  • Strategically award and monitor all athletics grants in aid to best leverage the academic progress rating (APR).
  • Assist leading and supporting the College Enrollment Management priorities through partnership, participation, and meeting goals with Enrollment Management initiatives.
  • Identify, recruit, and retain athletically and academically talented prospective student athletes who will embrace the core values of Le Moyne College athletics.
  • Assist the department with its gender equity planning and the satisfaction of all Title IX legislation by striving to attain goals related to any applicable enrollment management initiatives within your particular program.
  • Promote and offer available experiential learning/internship/work study opportunities to incoming prospects and/or general students, which are developed and managed either by the department or through your program.
  • Respond to all requests for information from prospective student-athletes, coaches, parents, and/or friends of prospective student-athletes.
  • Solicit information from and distribute information to eligible prospective student-athletes and coaches and or parents or friends of prospective student-athletes.
  • Develop and distribute appropriate recruiting materials, publications and information to interested prospective student-athletes.
  • Follow up with appropriate offers of scholarships in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive recruiting records of all prospective student athletes.
  • Provide the appropriate academic support, assistance, motivation and environment for student-athletes.
  • Maintain familiarity with appropriate academic resource and assistance programs available to student-athletes.
  • Monitor the academic progress of your student-athletes from current class work to graduation.
  • Promote the importance of academic achievement and life skills development.
  • Demonstrate a willingness and commitment to be broadly engaged and in service to the College as demonstrated through participation on committees and attendance at College functions/events.
  • Participate with department committees, as elected or assigned, to develop, evaluate and enhance department policy.
  • Attend all departmental meetings, unless excused in advance by the Athletic Director/AVP.
  • Complete all online educational and training modules required by the College (Cybersecurity training, Title IX/Diversity & Inclusion training, etc).
  • Be fully committed and engaged in advancing the department’s “Inside the L” culture.
  • Respond to all information requests and work with the media, etc. according to guidelines and deadlines established by Athletic Communications.
  • Inform Athletic Communications when you or any of your athletes has been contacted by the media.
  • Fully understand and support the College's policies and procedures, along with any departmental guidelines, for all fund-raising activities.
  • Secure a minimum 10% of your programmatic budget through individual giving or grants.
  • Drive fundraising initiatives to support strategic goals not funded through programmatic budget.
  • Cultivate donor relationships and meet annual development targets.
  • Give particular attention to NCAA legislation surrounding NIL, booster groups and donors.
  • Reconcile all revenues and deposits in accordance with institutional and departmental policy.
  • Fully support the Dolphin Athletic Association and its programming to engage key stakeholder groups of their respective program such as alumni and families/friends.
  • Be involved in various community activities as a representative of the Le Moyne College Athletics Department.
  • Identify and cultivate a community partnership with a service-based organization to provide an impactful service experience for your student-athletes.
  • Supervise and evaluate each assistant coach involved with your program.
  • Keep assistant coaches informed of all applicable rules, regulations, deadlines, meetings and/or other policies.
  • Ensure all staff members (including volunteers) satisfy the hiring guidelines of the Department prior to assuming their respective duties, and pass the NCAA Division I Modules each year.
  • Schedule and staff all pool functions, activities and events including but not limited to college recreation program opportunities, varsity athletics, camps/clinics, and external events/rentals.
  • Develop and coordinate a comprehensive pool maintenance program which includes cleaning, water chemistry, mechanical upkeep, equipment checks and chemical inventory.
  • Work in conjunction with Building and Grounds for pool maintenance.
  • Hire, staff and supervise lifeguards.
  • Maintain pool safety equipment.
  • Attend and participate in conferences.
  • Work cooperatively with all members of the Athletic Department (Administrators, Support Staff, Colleagues), and any other campus (admissions, housing, financial aid, maintenance, etc), or community office/agency that you might be involved with.
  • Handle communications and required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate and role-model all of Le Moyne’s mission-based competencies (collaboration, communication, diversity, integrity, leadership and service) in every interaction with all community members and external parties.
  • Strengthen digital literacy skills through education and the application of digital technologies in order to effectively engage in information gathering, utilization and data management while promoting a security culture.

  • Align professional goals, objectives, and performance with college’s strategic goals.
  • Demonstrate excellent work attendance, reliability and work ethic.
  • Attend and actively participate in required meetings and training sessions.

  • Complete all required federal, state, institution and department trainings.
  • Engage in a planned program of professional development.
  • Continually maintain skills and knowledge relative to the position and technology industry including best practice, evolving operational requirements, and industry trends.
  • Perform a variety of related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree highly desirable.
  • 3 to 5 years of progressive experience in the conduct of a collegiate level swimming program with proven success in recruiting high quality student athletes and/or equivalent related experiences.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply NCAA and conference rules as they pertain to the men's and women's swimming programs.
  • Must be First Aid/CPR/AED certified and complete all required NCAA DI Institute modules prior to participating in off-campus recruiting activities and countable athletically related activities.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills needed.
  • Certificates for Certified Pool Operator, Lifeguard/CPR/AED, and Water Safety Instructor.
  • Preferred certificates in Lifeguard Instructor and Instructor Trainer as well as professional certifications with the College Swim Coaches Association of America and/or the American Swim Coaches Association.
  • Preferred Aquatic Director experience.
  • Must possess a valid, current U.S. driver’s license.
  • Must have reliable transportation or the ability to rent a vehicle when needed to travel to recruiting sites.
  • May need to drive campus vehicles for local events.
