About the Role

The Chinese-American Planning Council (CPC) is seeking a Group Leader to develop and implement lesson plans for children aged 5-12. This role involves facilitating daily activities, ensuring child safety, documenting progress, and fostering an inclusive classroom environment. The position is part of the COMPASS Elementary program, which provides after-school services focused on positive youth development.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement lesson plans that are developmentally appropriate, aligned to Common Core Standards, and designed to promote academic, recreational, and social-emotional learning.
• Facilitate daily activities in core subjects such as Math and English Language Arts, as well as Science, Social Studies, and cultural enrichment.
• Maintain active supervision of children to ensure a safe and supportive environment.
• Respond appropriately to behavioral concerns and medical needs.
• Document student attendance, behavior incidents, and classroom observations.
• Foster a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative classroom culture.
• Collaborate effectively with program peers, site supervisors, school staff, and CPC leadership.
• Ensure classrooms are organized, well-maintained, and stocked with necessary instructional and recreational materials.
• Attend required trainings, meetings, and professional development sessions.
• Report to and fulfill other related duties as assigned by the Program Director.

Requirements

• Must have at least two years of direct experience working with children under 13 years old.
• Knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices.
• Must have the necessary content knowledge, experience, and skills to implement program activities effectively.
• Current CPR/first aid/AED certification or willingness to complete this training/certification within 6 months of hire is required.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.

• The program includes academic support, physical exercise, and enrichment of age-appropriate activities such as literacy or STEM to enhance the academic, social, and physical development of children during the after-school hours and on certain school holidays.
