About the Role

Join our team as the Supervisor of Laurel Park, Nokomis Community Park, and Venice Train Depot, where you’ll have the opportunity to shape exceptional park and recreation experiences for residents and visitors. This role provides dynamic leadership across multiple recreation facilities, programs, and services, strengthening community partnerships, coordinating programs and events, managing budgets, and ensuring safe, well-maintained facilities. The position also supports countywide initiatives, strategic planning, and environmental stewardship.

Responsibilities

Plan, develop, implement, promote, and direct a broad range of recreation programs, activities, services, and special events.
Oversee daily facility operations, ensuring consistent staffing coverage, safe operations, and a high level of customer service.
Ensure assigned facilities are clean, well-maintained, safe, and accessible, coordinating maintenance with relevant staff.
Maintain effective working relationships with community organizations, facility use partners, user groups, volunteers, and the general public.
Serve as a liaison to Recreation Division Managers, providing recommendations on services, staffing, programming, and operations.
Address citizen inquiries and complaints, explaining County ordinances, policies, and procedures.
Maintain and monitor agreements, contracts, and partnerships with community organizations and service providers.
Coordinate facility reservations, rentals, and shared use to maximize access.
Plan, organize, assign, supervise, review, and evaluate the work of assigned staff.
Recommend hiring, provide training, coaching, mentorship, and hold staff and volunteers accountable.
Ensure effective supervision and coordination of staff and volunteers supporting rentals, programs, camps, and community-wide events.
Promote a positive organizational culture through communication, accountability, and leadership.
Assist in development and direct the implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and work standards.
Assist in preparation and administration of annual budgets; oversee expenditures, revenues, and provide input on pricing.
Prepare periodic and special reports related to recreation programs, events, facilities, revenue, expenditures, and data collection.
Develop and write procedures and manuals.
Order materials, supplies, and equipment; prepare work orders and manage contracts.
Monitor facility usage trends and recommend operational or program improvements.
Ensure compliance with County policies, procedures, and environmental stewardship standards.
Work with staff to ensure accurate and effective use of systems, including RecTrac, Skynet, and CampDoc.
Support and maintain compliance with CAPRA and ACA accreditation standards.
Conduct proactive assessments related to fraud awareness, prevention, detection, and risk mitigation.
Oversee financial, compliance, operational, and performance audits; review findings and ensure corrective actions are implemented.

Requirements

A Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Leisure Services, Education, Public Administration, Business Administration, or closely related field.
2 years minimum supervisory experience.
2 years minimum experience with conducting or overseeing programming from facility programs to large special events for the community.
Progressively responsible professional experience as described herein can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
CPR/AED or must attain within 6 months of hiring.
