About the Role

Manage high-stakes media relations and complex issues for Toronto Pearson and the GTAA. Serve as a key spokesperson, provide expert counsel, shape communications strategy, and drive innovation by creating compelling content across diverse channels. This role involves on-call duties and offers a dynamic career path.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic communications counsel to internal clients and stakeholders, offering expert guidance on tactics, timing, and measurement.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive communications plans to support organizational objectives.
  • Create compelling content for various channels, including news releases, media statements, social media, advertising copy, and new formats like podcasts.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with media contacts and external stakeholders.
  • Act as a primary media spokesperson, delivering messaging and conducting interviews on a range of topics.
  • Handle proactive and reactive media relations, including responding to inquiries as part of an on-call rotation.
  • Manage issues proactively by collaborating with subject matter experts to develop strategic messaging and positioning.
  • Provide critical communications support during operational issues and emergencies, including on-call availability on evenings and weekends.
  • Track and analyze the performance of communications programs and tactics to demonstrate their effectiveness.
  • Champion a customer-centric approach within the communications team, supporting the company's mission and values.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years’ experience in either communications or news media.
  • Three (3) years’ experience preparing messaging or editorial material for public delivery.
  • Demonstrable experience working as a media spokesperson, including on-camera and live media interviews.
  • Demonstrated experience in a customer-centric organization, familiar with customer experience models.
  • Experience working in a unionized 24/7 workplace.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to analyze and simplify complex, technical information for diverse audiences.
  • Strong relationship management abilities and a collaborative spirit, with experience working in dynamic, multi-stakeholder environments.
  • Proven skills to be highly organized, detail-oriented, and ability to manage time effectively and work with confidential information.
  • Valid Ontario G Driver’s License.
  • Ability to obtain and retain a Transportation Security Clearance.
