About the Role

As a Fuels Engineer at TSSA, you will work closely with customers and colleagues to support understanding safety requirements and promote compliance. Through collaboration, technical expertise, and problem-solving, you will help maintain the integrity of the fuel systems that communities depend on every day. This role offers a chance to contribute to safety in a practical and meaningful way.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate compliance of fuel systems and devices by reviewing engineering submissions, applications, technical drawings, calculations, and supporting documentation.
• Support safe product and system approvals by completing technical assessments and issuing approvals, variances, registrations, and other regulatory authorizations.
• Provide technical guidance by responding to client, industry, and stakeholder inquiries regarding regulatory requirements, engineering standards, codes, and compliance obligations.
• Contribute to incident investigations by collaborating with Inspectors and Investigators to assess safety incidents, determine compliance, conduct root cause analysis, and support public safety outcomes.
• Advance compliance and risk mitigation by identifying and addressing safety concerns, including fuel appliance recalls and non-compliance matters.
• Support continuous improvement and knowledge sharing by researching emerging technologies, regulatory changes, and updates to codes and standards.
• Represent TSSA and promote public safety by participating in technical committees, industry associations, working groups, and projects.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering, Applied Science, or an equivalent qualification recognized by Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in good standing.
• 3 to 5 years of engineering experience within a regulatory environment, fuel industry, consulting, or related technical field.
• Sound understanding of fuel systems and equipment design from a mechanical, chemical, and/or electrical engineering perspective.
• Experience with fuel oil, propane, natural gas, pipeline, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), and/or Hydrogen systems is considered an asset.
• Familiarity with CSA B149 series, CSA B139 series, CSA Z662 and CSA B31.1/B31.3 piping systems and associated industry practices.
• Knowledge of applicable Ontario regulations, safety codes, and industry standards, including CSA codes and standards, for fuel systems and pipelines.
• Knowledge of ASME standards for power piping, process piping, hydrogen piping, and pressure vessels.
• Experience working with engineering quality management systems, engineering review processes, and electronic records management practices.
• Experience working within engineering management, regulatory administration, or customer relationship management platforms, such as Microsoft Dynamics 365, is considered an asset.
• Strong technical analysis skills to review engineering drawings, calculations, specifications, manuals, control systems, PLC programming logic, and related documentation.
• Ability to evaluate complex technical issues and identify safety risk.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and contribute to a professional, public safety-focused environment.
