About the Role
SUNY Ulster is seeking a Junior Accounting Specialist to process and maintain financial information for the College and Association. This role involves daily financial transactions, reconciliations, accounts payable/receivable, and assisting with audits and training.
Responsibilities
- Process and maintain financial information relating to the activities of the College and Association.
- Perform bank reconciliations.
- Post journal entries.
- Reconcile the general ledger.
- Perform daily close.
- Manage accounts payables.
- Manage accounts receivables.
- Oversee asset inventory control and depreciation.
- Provide finance training.
- Process daily financial transactions of the College and Association.
- Post journal entries and reconcile general ledger accounts.
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations for all College bank accounts.
- Process purchase requisitions, create purchase orders, and distribute them to vendors and campus departments.
- Maintain vendor records and assist with issuing annual 1099NEC forms.
- Prepare and deliver training to colleagues on various Accounting forms and processes.
- Assist with the preparation for annual independent audits of the College and Association.
- Maintain appropriate records to document final accounting for all books of account, including the general ledger, cash receipts, and cash disbursements, complying with record retention requirements.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree.
- Accounting and analytical skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Google Docs/ Sheets.
- Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, business or related field (Preferred).
- Prior experience in an educational or governmental institution (Preferred).
- Experience with Banner software (Preferred).
