About the Role

We are seeking a Principal AWS Infrastructure Engineer to lead the technical strategy and execution of our AWS foundation, focusing on EKS lifecycle management, multi-account architecture, and data governance. This is a high-leverage individual contributor role for an expert in production Kubernetes, cloud architecture, and infrastructure-as-data governance.

Responsibilities

• Own Kubernetes/EKS lifecycle management, including planning and executing cluster upgrades independently.
• Inherit, understand, and improve existing Terraform-based infrastructure as code at scale.
• Support and evolve AWS enterprise networking setup and multi-account architecture.
• Partner with Security, Compliance, and Data teams to ensure infrastructure decisions meet audit and governance requirements (SOC2 / FedRAMP-adjacent).
• Scale infrastructure to support Opto's growth, building on the existing architecture.
• Coordinate with business stakeholders to administer and facilitate hosted infrastructure needs.
• Support broader platform reliability initiatives.

Requirements

• Deep Kubernetes/EKS experience, with the ability to own version upgrades independently.
• Terraform/IaC proficiency at scale.
• Experience with AWS cloud infrastructure, including enterprise networking, containers, and multi-AZ deployments.
• Strong operational competence with Linux systems and shell scripting.
• Experience with CI/CD and Git-based workflows.
• Compliance and security posture experience, including SOC2, access management (Okta/IAM), and audit readiness.
• Comfort operating in a high-trust, interrupt-driven environment at a startup or similarly fast-paced organization.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience working cross-functionally across multiple teams.
