About the Role
This position will serve as the primary portfolio advisor for 10-15 family office portfolios, managing numerous beneficiaries and interested parties within each relationship. The role requires expertise in family office structures, trust types, sophisticated investment vehicles, and all investment asset classes. The advisor will collaborate with Northern Trust Asset Management OCIO partners on client relationships and investment implementation.
Responsibilities
- Manage investment activities for a full set of large and sensitive high net worth personal trusts and individual investment portfolios.
- Develop, recommend, and direct the execution of investment allocations and manager selection for family office clients.
- Analyze and plan overall investment strategy with continuous revision based on changing goals and client needs, coordinating proactively with the client service team.
- Maintain an integral and influential presence within the client-facing team, communicating client requirements and coordinating portfolio activity.
- Consistently demonstrate mastery with new investment strategies, tools, capabilities, portfolio research, and investment methodologies.
- Lead client reporting and communication regarding investments on a regular basis.
- Adhere to best practices as measured by the PM Dashboard and related reporting.
- Execute initiatives, new capability rollouts, and required investment training as the GFO investment platform develops.
- Partner with compliance peers to ensure sound governance and risk management processes in investment implementation.
- Serve as a strong team player with a collaborative approach, contributing to a fast-growing, highly successful team.
- Act as an individual contributor, continuously contributing to progress and best practice development alongside the investment team.
Requirements
- Familiarity with family office structures, trust types, sophisticated investment vehicles, and all investment asset classes.
- Knowledge of investment and portfolio management theory and execution options, accounting and financial principles, associated investment strategies and instruments, and all asset classes.
- Experience managing family office or ultra-high net worth portfolios with performance responsibility across multiple market cycles, including advising clients in protracted down markets.
- Strong alternatives experience across all asset classes at the fund/manager level.
- Deep client engagement skills are required.
- Ability to translate complexity into simplicity for individuals in a format that works best for them.
- Ability to lead client investment relationship reviews, set agendas, and drive toward investment goals.
- Minimum 15 years of investment, asset allocation or research experience, alongside client experience in an ultra high net worth or family office setting.
