About the Role
As a Safety Aide with Homes for the Homeless, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and comfort of families within our shelters. This position requires collaboration across departments to maintain a secure environment.
Responsibilities
- Patrol interior and exterior areas of the building.
- Monitor resident entry and exit by maintaining a sign-in log and requiring identification.
- Enforce rules and regulations.
- Prepare incident reports or maintenance tickets for hazardous or dangerous conditions.
- Learn and assist with fire safety plan and evacuation procedures, including fire drills.
- Prepare for and assist in hazardous situations within the facility.
- Intervene in incidents and assist in emergencies throughout the building.
- Be attentive to post, which may involve standing for extended periods.
- Assist in emergency building situations such as snow shoveling or spill cleanup.
- Work mandatory overtime, potentially including full double shifts.
Requirements
- Possession of a current NYS Security License at time of hire.
- Possession of an FDNY Certificate of Fitness (F-02 Fire Guard for Shelters) within 60 days of hire.
- Current 8-hour certificate.
- Current 16-hour certificate.
