About the Role

Mott MacDonald Canada is seeking a Senior Transportation/Roadway Designer to support its growing civil team with infrastructure assignments for public and private-sector clients. This role offers the opportunity to work on global projects with diverse colleagues and contribute to Mott MacDonald's success in North America.

Responsibilities

  • Develop preliminary and detailed design based on engineering reports, detailed notes, and client specifications, ensuring accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
  • Design roadways using Civil 3D; knowledge of OpenRoads design software is a plus.
  • Prepare preliminary and detailed design drawings, including plans, profiles, cross-sections, geometrics, drainage and utilities.
  • Prepare design quantities, cost estimates, and provide technical support throughout the tendering and construction processes.
  • Coordinate with project managers and design team members to understand project requirements and deliverables, and participate in decisions regarding technical methods, scheduling, and cost.
  • Adhere to industry design standards and drafting requirements.
  • Mentor, coach, and train junior staff, providing ongoing support and guidance.
  • Review and issue finalized shop drawings.
  • Coordinate and mentor junior staff.
  • Following checking and self-checking processes, issue drawings to internal and external clients, and manage electronic information.
  • Engage as part of large multidisciplinary teams and coordinate design documents for consistency.
  • Engage effectively and professionally in verbal and written communications.
  • Utilize collaboration techniques for information management and implement Building Information Modelling (BIM).
  • Train team members in technical software and collaboration tools, design coordination workflows.

Requirements

  • 10-15 years of Experience in Linear Infrastructure or Site Development Projects.
  • Emphasis and proficiency with AutoCAD, Civil 3D.
  • Experience with MicroStation and InRoads will be considered.
  • Strong computer software skills with ProjectWise, Word, Excel & MS Project.
  • Comprehensive knowledge with TAC, including various Municipal & Regional design and drafting standards.
  • Skilled in cost estimating, quantity preparation and specification writing.
  • Have a track record of gaining approval of infrastructure designs from roads authorities and environmental agencies.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and deliver projects under stringent schedules in a fast-paced turnaround environment.
  • Excellent time management skills, setting priorities, to complete deliverables on time.
  • Self-starter with strong analytical and problem-solving skills to understand what tasks are required to deliver projects and assignments successfully, as well as solving technical challenges while developing new workflows.
  • Genuine interest to develop and progress digital delivery with a propensity for learning.
  • Maintain and improve knowledge of drafting techniques, standards, practices, and engineering procedures.
