About the Role
As a Project Architect or Lead at Cushing Terrell, you will transform concepts into spaces people rely on daily. You will lead projects from early design vision through construction, collaborating with clients, consultants, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure alignment with performance, sustainability, and long-term value. This role focuses on grocery and retail architecture, shaping environments that balance efficiency, customer experience, technology, and brand storytelling.
Responsibilities
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Consult with clients to define project requirements, including design, specifications, materials, costs, and timelines.
- Collaborate with design leaders and other disciplines to develop preliminary design concepts.
- Conduct research necessary for project design.
- Inspect work during construction to ensure compliance with specifications and approve quality of materials and work.
- Advise clients and construction teams on project progress and compliance.
- Prepare contract documents for building contractors.
- Complete construction cost estimates.
- Perform code and jurisdictional research for projects.
- Review project drawings and provide feedback to the project team.
- Administer construction contracts, including addenda, substitutions, change orders, and submittal reviews.
- Conduct on-site observations during construction and perform final inspections.
- Direct the activities of other architectural team members.
- Seal and sign permit documents if licensed.
- Potentially supervise team members, including training, assigning work, reviewing performance, and resolving issues.
- Develop and maintain external and internal client relationships.
Requirements
- NAAB-accredited Bachelor or Master of Architecture degree.
- 3 to 5+ years of job-related work experience with demonstrated competence in leading projects, teams, and clients.
- Experience and passion for Grocery and Retail architecture.
- Current architect license/registration is a plus, but optional.
- Must be able to take a project from start to finish.
- Must possess good time management skills.
- Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
