About the Role
New Energy Works Master Carpenter is a leadership role responsible for guiding and managing young and apprentice carpenters, as well as other project foremen and journeymen. This position requires extensive experience in framing and general carpentry, with a focus on building high-performance, custom homes. The role involves supervising a crew during the installation of various materials and systems, emphasizing site leadership, logistics, quality assurance, and hands-on management.
Responsibilities
- Supervise, manage, and direct a crew of carpenters during installation.
- Focus on site leadership, logistics, quality assurance, and hands-on management.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and development training to coworkers and subordinates.
- Lead, inspire, mentor, and direct carpenters, builders, and staff.
- Communicate daily with project engineers, project managers, and team leadership regarding progress and issues.
- Schedule regular project communication with management, sub-contractors, and other parties.
- Ensure employees are costing their labor correctly.
- Understand contract documents, including final contract, scopes, change orders, and architectural drawings.
- Understand production/construction schedules and coordinate material ordering, sub-contract communication, and labor needs.
- Provide weekly status reports, personnel reports, and conflict resolution to construction and project managers.
- Participate in the recruiting and hiring of new carpenters.
- Conduct performance reviews of existing carpenters.
- Train carpentry staff, including Foremen, Journeymen, and Apprentices.
- Ensure a safe, clean, and professional work environment.
- Conduct safety training and toolbox talks, ensuring OSHA compliance.
- Manage tool maintenance and inventory.
- Plan projects, including manpower, equipment, travel, labor estimating, and scheduling.
- Solve problems related to construction.
- Ensure quality control on projects.
- Lead and develop a professional, well-organized, and efficient team.
- Maintain proper operation and cleanliness of company vehicles, tools, and equipment.
- Report any issues with company vehicles or equipment to a supervisor.
- Manage company tools and equipment on-site and on-campus.
- Ensure a safe, clean, and professional jobsite.
- Implement best builder practices for all assigned project scopes.
- Comply with all New Energy Works policies and code of conduct.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- Extensive high-quality-oriented framing & general carpentry experience.
- Interest in and aptitude for building high-performance, high-craft custom homes.
- Complete understanding of the build process, project scope, and off-site manufacturing of enclosure systems.
- Understanding of site management, team leadership, and employee development/training.
- 10+ years of carpentry experience.
- 5+ years of supervisory experience.
- Extensive knowledge of building sites, construction planning, crew organization, logistics, and job-site management.
- Industry experience including: Framing, Enclosures, Custom Home Construction, and Building Systems.
- Excellent math skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and managerial skillsets.
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
- Strong problem-solving skillset including job-site management, tool and equipment maintenance, and supply management/ordering.
- Competency and proficiency in panel fabrication / installation.
- Knowledge and ability to interpret drawings and frame floor systems, walls, and roof structures.
- Knowledge of building materials and best installation practices.
- Knowledge of OSHA standards (10 hour preferred).
- Must have/maintain a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
