About the Role
This position provides operational support in mitigation efforts for clients, requiring the ability to perform tasks related to Emergency Haz Mat situations and use specialized equipment under supervision.
Responsibilities
- Work with Environmental Emergency Response Teams, Transportation, Fixed Facility and Site Remediation Projects.
- Ensure work completion aligns with measurements, specifications, drawings, plans, or other instructions.
- Strictly adhere to health and safety procedures, including safe lifting, PPE usage, and chemical labeling.
- Proactively communicate issues affecting job completion to the Project Manager.
- Learn and understand MSDS protocols for chemicals used in mitigation.
- Perform daily vehicle safety and maintenance inspections, keeping vehicles clean and serviceable.
- Maintain attention to detail.
- Comply with prescribed safety procedures and federal laws for waste disposal.
- Decontaminate equipment and sites to remove hazardous or toxic substances.
- Prepare hazardous waste for processing or disposal.
- Utilize proper lifting techniques, slide pads, and Styrofoam blocks, and protect customer belongings.
- Meet BELFOR Standards in safeguarding customer property.
- Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of customer service principles and practices.
- Work under time constraints to meet specific timelines.
- Be available to work nights and weekends as requested, and travel periodically.
- Report time worked and equipment/consumables used accurately and timely.
- Attend BELFOR sponsored operations and safety training courses as required.
Requirements
- Respond promptly to emergency spills and environmental cleanup situations.
- Interact with emergency services, including first responders, local and state police, EMS, and regulatory agencies.
- Train employees on job techniques, safety procedures, and equipment use.
- Conduct fit tests for all employees required to wear respirators on the first day of the week and on the first day of a new job.
- Record mileage as required and download time records every evening.
- Document all work completed, including materials/equipment used, on a Daily Job Report.
- Perform additional other duties as required.
Skills
- Identify product (consumables), usage, and disposal requirements with training.
- Hazardous Waste Certification.
- Eligible to operate a motor vehicle per BELFOR's vehicle policy.
- Sense of urgency, professional demeanor, positive attitude, and strong work ethic.
- English language literacy and fluency.
- Frequent lifting in excess of 50 lbs.
- Occasional lifting from 41 lbs +, assisted (up to 50% of the time).
- Access and mobility in tight spaces.
- Sustained periods of standing, sitting, walking, bending, and kneeling.
- Ability to use mobile devices for data and time collection.
