About the Role

In our chemistry team, you will scientifically evaluate substances, research current findings, and work on the further development of our ToxFox pollutant database. This position is particularly suitable for career starters who want to contribute their expertise to environmental and consumer protection within one of Germany's largest environmental organizations.

Responsibilities

• Scientifically evaluate chemical substances and groups for potential health and environmental risks, such as toxicity, persistence, mobility, hormonal effects, or CMR properties.
• Research scientific studies, official information, laboratory results, and regulatory documents, and assess their significance.
• Maintain and update the ToxFox pollutant database, correctly assign different substance names and spelling variations, and incorporate new relevant substances according to professional criteria.
• Evaluate product, study, and market data and prepare results in a structured manner.
• Prepare decision papers for management, including source information, assessment basis, uncertainties, and recommendations.
• Support team leadership and colleagues with technical questions and product tests.
• Review consumer inquiries regarding ingredients and pollutants.

Requirements

• Completed studies or training with a strong chemical focus (e.g., Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, Food Chemistry, or a comparable degree).
• Ability to independently research, read, and interpret scientific studies and technical information.
• Basic knowledge of chemical properties and their potential impact on humans and the environment.
• Proficiency in careful, structured, and source-based work.
• Critical questioning of information and transparent handling of scientific uncertainties.
• Ability to consistently adhere to given assessment criteria.
• Proactive contribution of questions and uncertainties.
• Interest in applying chemical expertise to environmental and consumer protection.
• Very good German and English language skills (at least C1).
