About the Role
This role is responsible for US GAAP and local statutory accounting for Brown-Forman’s UK (BFBE) & Ireland and third-party markets in the Nordics & Baltics. It ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial records according to US GAAP, local accounting standards, and relevant tax regimes. The role will assist the Regional Controller Europe with accounting and controlling advice on transactions and business changes, acting as a business partner to senior management by communicating financial information clearly to support decision-making. This position leads an accounting team across various locations.
Responsibilities
- Ensure all financial records are maintained in accordance with US GAAP and local statutory regulations in a timely and accurate manner.
- Address tight deadlines and manage accounting and tax compliance activities (Excise, VAT), including month-end closing, tax return submissions, and legal statutory audits.
- Review and analyze balance sheet reconciliations, assess reasonableness, and explain fluctuations.
- Own the rebates processing, ensuring accuracy and timeliness, and collaborate with Commercial and GBS Pricing and Rebates teams for accruals and releases.
- Provide robust discounts/rebates analytics in the balance sheet.
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of internal SOX Narratives for key processes.
- Partner with GBS CCCA Process Lead to ensure timely report delivery and prompt investigation of customer overdue amounts.
- Partner with GBS ITP Process Lead to ensure timely and accurate management of Accounts Payable and T&E.
- Partner with Tax Manager to lead and complete HMRC due diligence exercises, business risk reviews, SAO attestations, and maintain the RACM.
- Lead the statutory audit process, coordinating teams to support external audits and respond to inquiries.
- Serve as a key member of the UK extended leadership team, collaborating with functional areas across UK, Ireland, Nordics, and Baltics markets.
- Maintain productive working relationships with internal stakeholders.
- Communicate financial data (quantitative & qualitative) in a timely, clear, and concise manner.
- Assist in developing and implementing new procedures and policies to ensure appropriate internal controls.
- Manage the organizational training calendar for the UK, focusing on accounting-related topics.
- Provide leadership and coaching to the accounting and GBS team to support their growth.
- Ensure efficient allocation of resources to meet business needs.
- Improve or develop efficient processes by streamlining workflows while maintaining accuracy.
- Identify process gaps and improvement opportunities.
- Partner with IT in prioritizing projects and resources for process digitization.
- Participate in projects leading to significant company growth, requiring analysis, creativity, change management, and business judgment.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- ACCA, CPA or UK CIMA or similar internationally recognized advanced accounting qualification.
- Demonstrable working experience in the Accounting field (Accounting Manager or Senior Accountant roles) with demonstrated experience in leading a team.
- Good people leadership skills.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze financial statements, general ledger accounts, and prepare accounting workpapers.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to various internal and external changes and work independently.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and manage a high-volume workload to meet frequent deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of internal and external contacts.
- Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to review processes to determine gaps and generate ideas for process improvement.
