About the Role

As a Planning Executive, you will plan, implement, and optimize integrated media campaigns, collaborating with senior planning and client teams to transform client objectives into effective media solutions. You will gain hands-on experience across the entire campaign lifecycle, including planning, buying, trafficking, optimization, reporting, and insights. This role is for a media professional ready to increase campaign ownership, deepen their understanding of the Australian media landscape, and enhance client and strategic planning skills. You will work with activation teams, media partners, and internal specialists, leveraging data, research, and market insights to identify opportunities and drive client outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain relationships with internal teams and relevant external groups, such as media owners and partner agencies, to benefit clients and Spark.
  • Gain knowledge of clients’ products, target audiences, communications strategies, and key messages.
  • Research past brand or product strategies and results.
  • Understand the competitive landscape of client categories, consumer behavior, and marketplace changes.
  • Collaborate with internal resources and the Snr Planning Exec / Client Manager to create effective cross-channel communication plans.
  • Actively contribute to weekly WIP meetings (internal and external) to proactively identify potential issues within your client portfolio.
  • Create clear and coherent media plans that support client business objectives, including timing, budget, and business requirements.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of each medium's primary strengths and weaknesses.
  • Interpret research, market data, and systems (e.g., Netratings, Market Intelligence, ComScore, Roy Morgan, AdRelevance) to improve planning and trading effectiveness.
  • Manage the day-to-day implementation process, ensuring media is bought and delivered according to plan to meet objectives.
  • Map out timelines and deliverables, including reporting and key deadlines for creative agencies and publishers.
  • Support Activations team with partner briefings and negotiations.
  • Provide feedback to partners during partner briefings and response evaluations.
  • Stay current with market knowledge to aid negotiations.
  • Assist the Activations team in ensuring all planning ideas are executed through the trading process.
  • Be proficient in using 3rd party ad serving tools such as DoubleClick & Sizmek.
  • Collaborate with Snr Planning Exec and/or Client Manager to deliver ROI tracking recommendations for all client campaigns.
  • Regularly monitor and optimize campaigns to ensure maximum budget utilization and optimal campaign performance.
  • Clearly demonstrate and report how campaign results align with the strategic intent and achieve agreed objectives.
  • Identify and recommend optimization opportunities, ensuring prompt and correct implementation.
  • Work with Snr Planning Exec to create post-campaign reports detailing media performance, market conditions, insights, and future recommendations.
  • Deliver reports on time and error-free.
  • Manage client expectations regarding potential delays (via Communication Manager).
  • Reconcile campaign delivery to ensure final delivered plans match billings.
  • Review proformas monthly during invoicing and execute necessary changes.
  • Address account queries immediately, aiming for zero outstanding queries weekly.
  • Maintain accurate budget and spend management for campaigns.
  • Detail all campaign finance changes across media plans and systems.
  • Complete final buy documents and enter rates into trading sheets after each bought plan.
  • Advise the team of any savings that can be reinvested or returned.

Requirements

  • Minimum 12-18 months of experience in media planning within an agency environment.
  • Expert understanding and working knowledge of the Australian media landscape.
  • Expert proficiency across Microsoft Office platforms: Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Full understanding and experience using eTAM, BMD, Roy Morgan, EMMA, eRAM, Nielsen Digital / Answers, Sizmek and/or DCM, MOVE, AQX Fusion.
