About the Role

The Executive Vice President, Commercial Infrastructure, is a key member of the CIB Senior Executive and Investments teams, accountable for the performance, pipeline development, and investment targets within the Commercial Infrastructure portfolio. This role involves setting investment strategy, managing risk and return, and ensuring balanced performance across impact, financial return, risk, and capital deployment.

Responsibilities

Manage the CIB’s pipeline of commercial investments from deal origination to investment.
Hold portfolio-level accountability for the entire investment business performance within the CIB’s Commercial portfolio (e.g., trade, digital, critical minerals and clean energy).
Actively manage portfolio investments, including workouts and special situations.
Represent the Commercial portfolio at Board and Executive Committee levels.
Make final investment recommendations within the portfolio and defend investment decisions to the Board, navigating governance structures and managing Board relationships.
Provide executive oversight of all team members in the Commercial Infrastructure business unit and collaborate with other EVPs to lead broader investment personnel.
Oversee organizational capability building within the Commercial team, including team structure, talent development, and resource allocation.
Drive cross-organizational initiatives that integrate investments with other functions (e.g., other investment portfolios, Asset Management, Finance, Legal, Risk).
Act as an organizational architect, designing business unit team structure, operating models, and investment processes.
Manage key stakeholder relationships at the most senior levels (CEOs, Ministers, and Deputy Ministers) relevant to their business unit.
Serve as the external spokesperson for the business unit's investment strategy with government, industry, and media.

Requirements

Twenty plus years of investing experience, including direct experience in infrastructure investing.
Demonstrated experience with capital structuring for early-stage investments at the corporate or project level and leading all aspects of the transaction cycle.
Proven experience leading and developing an engaged workforce.
Self-starter with strong project management skills, relationship building skills, and leadership skills.
Strong organizational commitment, comfortable working with complexity and ambiguity, entrepreneurial and solution-oriented mindset.
Strategic portfolio management capabilities, including identifying new market opportunities, defining sector entry/exit strategies, and shaping the organization’s investment approach.
Enterprise leadership, influencing organizational strategy, culture, and priorities beyond their business unit.
Talent strategist, supporting recruitment, development, and retention of top investment talent, and building bench strength for succession.
Change leader, driving transformation initiatives that affect the entire organization's operations.
Ability to travel across Canada to CIB offices and partner meetings (estimated 25% of the time).
