  • Implement automations and integrations to reduce manual work, improve accuracy, and enable scalability of operational systems.
  • Collaborate with technical colleagues on custom tooling or engineering solutions when needed.
  • Manage the operation of Basis’ offices and labs, including workplace planning, access, supplies, facilities issues, and landlord and vendor relationships.
  • Coordinate workplace needs across New York and Cambridge locations.
  • Design and execute research gatherings, multi-day meetings, the annual retreat, visiting-researcher logistics, and other collaborative events.
  • Contribute to the operational aspects of grant and contract preparation and administration.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to own and reliably manage important operational domains over time.
  • Sound judgment and a high degree of autonomy, including in uncertain situations.
  • Attention to detail in execution, ensuring tasks are completed without repeated reminders.
  • Enjoyment of operations as a craft, encompassing both system design and ongoing maintenance.
  • Comfort in a technical research environment, with intellectual curiosity and the ability to engage with experts.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to handle sensitive personnel, candidate, grant, and organizational information with discretion.
  • Excitement about driving impact through operational excellence.
  • Experience in a research institute, laboratory, scientific or deep-tech organization, or other highly technical environment is advantageous.
  • Experience across multiple operational areas such as People, recruiting, facilities, events, grants, or administration is advantageous.
  • Experience developing policies or operating systems for a growing or changing organization is advantageous.
  • Comfort and experience managing external partners like facilities providers, university administrators, legal counsel, landlords, and vendors is advantageous.
