About the Role
We are hiring a Staff Engineer to report to the VP Engineering and work on our highest-stakes, most ambiguous technical problems. This is an execution role where you will lead through your output, judgment, and the quality of the standards you set. You will work on strategically critical projects that don't yet have a clear shape, giving them shape, de-risking them, making irreversible decisions visible, and driving them to completion. AI is central to how you work, not as a productivity tool but as a lever for judgment and scope, enabling you to take on problems that would otherwise require a team and build architectural foundations for others.
Responsibilities
- Lead through output, judgment, and setting quality standards.
- Shape and drive strategically critical projects from ambiguous starting points.
- De-risk projects and make irreversible decisions visible.
- Drive projects to completion.
- Operate across real-time AI workflows, reliability engineering, AI infrastructure and platform engineering, GTM engineering, and security, privacy, and compliance.
- Use AI as a lever for judgment and scope to tackle large problems.
- Build architectural foundations, including specs, conventions, and standards.
- Improve technical shape of problems and equip the team to handle future challenges.
Requirements
- Proven Technical Leadership: Shipped complex systems from ambiguous starting points.
- Proven Technical Leadership: Made high-stakes architectural decisions under uncertainty and can articulate tradeoffs.
- AI Proficiency: Use AI to decompose large problems, maintain coherence, and apply architectural judgment.
- AI Proficiency: Know when AI output belongs in the codebase.
- Product Judgment: Strong product instincts.
- Product Judgment: Define scope, make prioritization calls, and connect technical choices to outcomes without waiting for a PM.
- Product Judgment: Know when 'good enough now' beats 'perfect later' and vice versa.
- Force Multiplier: Make people around you better through quality of decisions, visibility of reasoning, and standards set in code review and architecture discussions.
