About the Role
Stephenson Equipment, Inc (SEI) is seeking a Field Service Technician for their Baltimore, MD location. This role involves diagnosing, repairing, and overhauling mechanical and pneumatic equipment such as bulldozers, graders, cranes, and conveyors used in the construction industry at customer sites. The technician will operate out of a company-provided truck and is expected to have their own basic tools.
Responsibilities
- Repair and replace damaged or worn parts.
- Operate and inspect machines or heavy equipment to diagnose defects.
- Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers' specifications.
- Diagnose faults or malfunctions using engine diagnostic equipment.
- Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools.
- Clean, lubricate, and perform routine maintenance on equipment and vehicles.
- Comply with all safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE.
- Examine parts for damage or excessive wear.
- Schedule maintenance for industrial machines and equipment, and keep equipment service records.
- Read and understand operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings.
- Overhaul and test machines or equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
- Assemble gear systems, and align frames and gears.
- Fit bearings to adjust, repair, or overhaul mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment.
- Weld or solder broken parts and structural members.
- Clean parts by spraying them with grease solvent or immersing them in tanks of solvent.
- Adjust, maintain, and repair or replace subassemblies.
- Adjust and maintain industrial machinery using controls and regulating devices.
- Communicate and participate within a goal-oriented team environment.
- Participate in problem solving and continuous improvement activities.
- Maintain a clean and organized service truck.
- Check in and out with on-site customer contact.
- Maintain a clean driving record.
Requirements
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Work environment involves moderate to loud noise levels and varying temperatures.
- Job requires extended periods of standing, stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
- Ability to lift at least 50lbs with an occasional lift of up to 100lbs with assistance of a crane.
