About the Role

Seeking Licensed Counselors and Social Workers to provide Child and Youth Behavioral (CYB) counseling services to children of military service members and their families in support of the DoD Military and Family Life - Child and Youth Counseling Program (MFLC CYB) in New London, Connecticut.

Responsibilities

• Provide the full breadth of Child and Youth Behavioral (CYB) counseling services to children of all ages of military service members and their families.
• Provide non-medical, short-term, solution focused counseling directly to eligible children and youth of service members.
• Services include assessment, brief counseling and consultation, action planning, referral to resources, and follow-up.
• Support the staff and personnel of Child Development Centers (CDC), youth programs and summer camps.
• Provide parent support, training, and guidance.
• Deliver training and health and wellness presentations.
• Participate in health fairs and other base/installation activities focused on children and youth.
• Enter counselor activity data daily through smart phone or web application.
• Establish and maintain working relationships with community resources focused on children and youth.
• Be consistently visible within the assigned location(s) to ensure MFLC services are accessible.
• Abide by line-of-sight protocol when working with children.
• Partner with POC to provide CYB services in a manner that addresses the needs of the installation/facility.
• Develop an effective and professional working relationship with the installation/facility POC.
• Manage duty to warn and restricted reporting situations according to Department of Defense (DoD) protocol.
• Communicate with Regional Supervisors and participate in regular individual and group supervision.
• Respond to critical incidents and special requests as directed.
• Flex schedule to respond to urgent requests as needed.
• Participate in regular in-services/training, Quality Improvement committees, initiatives, studies, pilot programs and other contract activities.
• Complete activity documentation, integration of pilot activities in non-medical counseling work, and utilization of applicable technology.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in the Behavioral Health Professions (MS/MSW/MA)
• Valid, unrestricted CT, MA, or RI State Licensure at the independent practice level (LCSW, LISW, LMFT, LPC, LCPC, LMHC)
• At least 2 years of post-licensure clinical experience
• School-based Counselors must demonstrate past experience working in a school or Child/Youth Services setting
• Competency using technology and software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Internet navigation, Smartphone/Tablet and application navigation, video-conferencing platform navigation)
• Ability to engage and communicate with military members or children, including understanding, sensitivity, and empathy.
• Ability to develop trusting, helping relationships.
• Ability to respond quickly to emergent situations in any physical location on a military installation and/or within a school setting.
• Ability to traverse short and/or long distances within the base to both indoor and outdoor locations.
• Ability to maneuver through rugged, outdoor or uneven locations (e.g., steep inclines, stairs, grass).
• Ability to work in outdoor weather and other military base conditions.
• Must be able to pass a Child National Agency Check and Inquiries (CNACI) Clearance and an Installation Records Check (IRC), Criminal History Background Check and FBI Fingerprints Check.
• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Must possess a valid U.S. state vehicle operator’s license.
