Responsibilities
- Perform daily vehicle checks for mechanical problems.
- Complete and submit monthly, six-month, and annual vehicle checklists accurately and timely.
- Maintain a daily log of miles driven and gas purchases.
- Use best judgment for immediate repair needs, reporting expensive repairs (unless dangerous) to the Transportation Coordinator or Team Leader/Program Director prior to repair.
- Adhere to scheduled oil and oil filter changes.
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness, both inside and out.
- Strictly adhere to speed limits.
- Prohibit personal use of the vehicle.
- Treat consumers with respect and consideration.
- Strive to pick up consumers at scheduled times.
- Provide program assistance during downtime from driving.
- Provide services based on ethical concepts and principles, refraining from personal relationships with consumers.
- Refrain from assuming duties unrelated to or interfering with position responsibilities.
- Respond to emergency situations in a timely fashion.
- Report accidents and emergencies to the Team Leader or Program Director immediately.
- Demonstrate ability to work effectively with team members, as part of a multidisciplinary team, and independently.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Provide peer mentorship and support, drawing on common experiences to validate clients' experiences.
- Offer guidance and encouragement to clients for self-responsibility and active participation in recovery.
- Facilitate group sessions and co-facilitate with clinicians as needed.
- Conduct individual one-on-one sessions with clients.
- Complete documentation in a timely manner.
- Serve as a mentor to clients to promote hope and empowerment.
- Advocate on behalf of clients with substance use disorder in the community and program.
- Provide expertise and consultation from a recovering individual’s perspective to the team regarding clients’ experiences with substance use disorder symptoms, medication effects/side-effects, treatment responses/opinions, and recovery experiences.
- Collaborate with the treatment team to foster a culture respecting client viewpoints, experiences, and preferences.
- Maximize and support client self-determination and decision-making in treatment planning.
- Help clients identify, understand, and combat stigma and discrimination associated with substance use disorder and develop strategies to reduce self-stigma.
- Assist other treatment team members in identifying and understanding culture-wide stigma and discrimination against people with substance use disorder and developing strategies to eliminate team stigma.
- Collaborate with the treatment team to ensure client rights protection and enhance client knowledge of rights and grievance procedures.
- Increase awareness of and support client participation in self-help programs and recovery advocacy organizations.
- Serve as the liaison between the team and peer-run programs.
- Share in the provision of treatment and recovery services.
Requirements
- Submit to and pass a criminal record check, driving check, and drug screening test.
- Must be at least 25 years of age.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Must have a minimum of two years in recovery to be a peer support specialist.
- Must apply for the Temporary Registered Alcohol & Drug Peer Support Specialist credential immediately and work toward full licensure of Registered Alcohol & Drug Peer Support Specialist.
