About the Role

The BESS Engineer will act as an internal technical specialist for battery storage projects, providing engineering input, technical judgement and practical support across the project lifecycle. You will work across development, delivery, commercial, grid and asset management functions, helping to assess technologies, manage technical risks, support procurement decisions and contribute to successful construction, commissioning and operational outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist BESS engineering input across project development, delivery, commissioning and operations.
  • Assess and optimise battery technologies, energy management systems, battery management systems, power conversion systems and overall plant design.
  • Support technical due diligence for acquisitions, development opportunities and investment decisions.
  • Contribute to grid integration, GPS, grid connection and power system requirements.
  • Support procurement activities, including technical specifications, tender evaluations and OEM assessment.
  • Participate in design reviews, FAT/SAT activities, commissioning planning and project delivery support.
  • Work closely with external engineering advisors, consultants, contractors, OEMs, EPC partners and network providers.
  • Analyse asset performance, degradation, availability and lifecycle outcomes.
  • Identify and help mitigate engineering, safety, delivery and operational risks.
  • Contribute to engineering standards, lessons learned and continuous improvement across Aula Energy’s portfolio.

Requirements

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience supporting utility-scale BESS, renewable energy or power system projects.
  • Strong knowledge of battery technologies, EMS, BMS, PCS, SCADA and control systems.
  • Experience in BESS construction, commissioning, testing or operational performance, or strong capability in control systems and hybrid integration.
  • An understanding of grid connection, power systems and renewable energy project requirements.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively with external advisors, consultants, contractors and internal stakeholders.
  • Sound analytical capability and the ability to translate technical information into clear recommendations.
  • Strong technical writing, problem-solving and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience working in a renewable energy, utility, OEM, EPC, consultancy or IPP environment.
