About the Role

We are seeking a Founding Security Engineer to establish the security function at Pace. This role requires a strong security background combined with a customer-centric, pragmatic, and technical approach, focused on enabling rapid and safe product development while building customer trust. Initially, you will serve as a security generalist, addressing application and infrastructure security, enterprise security and GRC, incident response, and secure AI/agentic systems.

Responsibilities

  • Build security into our product by partnering with engineers on architecture, threat modeling, authentication, authorization, data isolation, secrets management, secure development practices, and high-risk product features.
  • Ensure the safety of agentic systems by defining security boundaries for AI agents that access sensitive data, use tools, interact with external systems, and act on behalf of customers.
  • Own application security by identifying vulnerabilities, improving testing and review processes, and fostering strong security instincts among engineers.
  • Scale the security program by hardening systems, controls, policies, monitoring, incident response, and risk management practices.
  • Co-own GRC and enterprise security by collaborating with customers, auditors, and internal teams on security reviews, compliance programs, questionnaires, controls, and evidence, with a focus on automation.
  • Elevate the security posture across Pace, making security a shared engineering responsibility and empowering the entire company to improve security continuously.
  • Define excellent security practices in an evolving landscape, particularly concerning AI agents and regulated environments.

Requirements

  • Significant experience as a security engineer, software engineer focused on security, or a deeply technical security role.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals, including the ability to read and write production code, reason about distributed systems, and collaborate on architecture.
  • Depth in at least one security discipline (e.g., application security, cloud/infrastructure security, product security, identity, detection and response).
  • Experience securing modern cloud applications and understanding threats across application, infrastructure, data, and identity layers.
  • Strong instincts for threat modeling and designing secure-by-construction systems.
  • Comfort operating in ambiguous environments where the security program is under development.
  • Ability to distinguish between theoretical and material risk and make pragmatic decisions without compromising standards.
  • Strong communication skills for interacting with engineers, enterprise customers, auditors, and leadership.
  • Experience with AI/LLM security, SOC 2 or similar frameworks, regulated industries, enterprise security reviews, or building security programs from an early stage is valuable but not required.
  • Willingness to learn unfamiliar security areas is preferred over narrow specialization.
