About the Role
STARK is seeking an AI leader to define and own the company's AI strategy across product, internal tooling, and the entire technical organization. This role involves pushing the boundaries of AI in defense technology and driving AI-powered productivity across all functions.
Responsibilities
- Define and own STARK's AI strategy across product and internal domains, setting a direction for Technical Leads.
- Lead AI stack decisions, model selection, frameworks, MLOps infrastructure, evaluation, and tooling.
- Act as connective tissue across teams, identifying and resolving cross-team AI dependencies and infrastructure gaps.
- Drive internal AI adoption, developer productivity tooling, agent and automation infrastructure, and responsible-use frameworks.
- Provide technical oversight and challenge across all AI workstreams, focusing on methodology, robustness, and performance.
- Monitor the AI landscape and translate relevant advances into strategic inputs.
- Ground AI strategy in operational reality by partnering with program and product leadership.
- Raise the AI bar at STARK by contributing to senior technical hiring, defining AI engineering standards, and building STARK's standing in the European defense-AI community.
- Represent STARK externally, speaking at venues, publishing, and presenting where it serves the mission.
Requirements
- Degree in machine learning, computer vision, robotics, or a closely related field, or equivalent industry research and publication/open-source record.
- Proven experience setting AI technical strategy at a senior level across multiple domains.
- Deep technical fluency in at least one of: perception and sensor fusion, autonomy and motion planning, SLAM/localisation, or multi-agent coordination (C2).
- Strong track record of influencing technical decisions without direct line authority.
- Experience in defence, aerospace, or another safety-critical domain; direct UAS or ground-robotics experience strongly preferred.
- Fluent English; working German is a practical advantage.
- Eligibility for required security clearance.
