About the Role

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Geotechnical Department Manager in Texas to lead the planning, execution, and oversight of geotechnical engineering services. This role involves managing staff, ensuring project delivery, leading teams, and driving business development for sustainable growth.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee geotechnical operations and QA/QC processes to ensure technical standards and project requirements are met.
  • Establish long-range objectives, staffing plans, and technical development goals for the geotechnical team.
  • Provide technical and managerial leadership for foundation design, slope stability, earth retention systems, ground improvement, and field investigation programs.
  • Develop and support marketing and business development strategies for geotechnical services.
  • Offer expert geotechnical insight to multidisciplinary teams on various project types.
  • Manage project execution and financial performance to achieve profitability and efficient resource use.
  • Monitor monthly productivity, utilization, and workload metrics, implementing adjustments as needed.
  • Assign geotechnical projects and coordinate staff scheduling to balance workloads and meet deadlines.
  • Evaluate employee performance based on company policies, technical competency, and professional growth objectives.

Requirements

  • PE required; PG candidate will be considered if highly qualified.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering.
  • 10+ years of experience in managing geotechnical engineering services and/or construction materials testing (CMT) services.
  • Ambitious, motivated, able to work independently, with a strong work ethic and excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to develop clients/projects in the near term is a plus.
  • Extensive knowledge of design, development, and implementation of ground improvement technologies and deep foundation systems.
  • Soils laboratory experience is a plus.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, REVIT, and other CAD platforms is a plus.
  • Experience or academic training with geotechnical software such as SEEP/W, SLOPE/W, SETTLE3D, L-Pile is preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, providing strong team leadership and effective project delivery.
  • Experience with developing budgets, preparing proposals, tracking budgets, and associated financial management.
