About the Role

DSPs in JET work directly with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities as they build independence, explore career interests, and develop practical skills that prepare them for real-world opportunities. This role blends hands-on support, community involvement, and meaningful relationship-building, all while contributing to a positive environment where growth and confidence are encouraged every day.

Responsibilities

  • Provides hands-on assistance, instruction, and training to individuals in various aspects of daily living, including communication, social skills, personal care, household management, travel, vocational opportunities, and money management, in accordance with individualized plans and safety considerations.
  • Accompanies individuals to community activities for supervision, skills training, support, or assistance, such as grocery shopping, banking, recreation, entertainment, and medical appointments.
  • Assists in planning group leisure activities, recreational events, community activities, and career exploration, including internship coaching, as requested by the site supervisor.
  • Participates in the ongoing assessment and evaluation of individuals' needs and abilities.
  • Assists individuals in determining valued outcomes, activities, and staff supports to form plans of service.
  • Assists individuals in communicating needs, wants, and concerns to team members.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years old.
  • Requires a High School Diploma or GED and one year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Driving is required, with a reliable means of transportation and a safe driving record for one full year prior to the hire date.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form.
