About the Role

Practical Law US is seeking a Senior Specialist Legal Editor to develop and write commercial legal and compliance content for their online services, assist in editorial development, and manage relationships with external contributors.

Responsibilities

  • Develop commercial legal and compliance content of national and global significance.
  • Write and edit legal resources, including standard form documents, practice guidance notes, and checklists.
  • Assist in the editorial development of Practical Law or Thomson Reuters products, including Global and AI initiatives.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with external law firm contributors.
  • Write and edit content for Practical Law’s companion magazine, Practical Law The Journal.
  • Stay informed of current developments and legal issues relating to commercial contracting and practice.
  • Develop relationships with lawyers in private practice, in-house counsel, and legal professional groups.
  • Support AI initiatives, including training AI for use in products and validating model performance.
  • Support product development and sales and marketing teams.
  • Conduct sales demonstrations and webinars.
  • Respond to subscriber inquiries regarding Practical Law resources.

Requirements

  • A minimum of eight years' experience working as a lawyer in a law firm or as in-house counsel.
  • Understanding of the needs and priorities of law firm attorneys and in-house counsel.
  • Expertise in a variety of commercial transactional and regulatory matters.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks.
  • Skill and passion for writing.
  • Close attention to detail.
  • Impressive command of grammar, punctuation, and plain English.
  • Ability to write about complex legal issues clearly and simply.
  • Ability to collaborate with and support team members.
  • Flexibility in working on tasks other than writing legal resources.
  • Candidates selected for a second interview will be required to submit a writing sample.
