About the Role
The Financial Analyst (FA) will be responsible for delivering accurate and timely financial analysis to support corporate accounting, construction and development, and special projects. The FA will support financial planning and forecasting processes, perform detailed cost and variance analyses, and support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities. The role requires translating analyses into meaningful insights and actionable recommendations to inform decision-making. The FA will also work on and potentially own process improvement initiatives and financial system enhancements.
Responsibilities
- Perform daily accounting activities including journal entries, bank reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.
- Reconcile accounts and ensure accuracy of financial data across multiple entities or cost centers.
- Support month-end and year-end close processes, including accruals and balance sheet reviews.
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements in compliance with GAAP, not-for-profit accounting standards, and internal policies.
- Contribute to budgeting and forecasting by collecting data, preparing reports, and performing variance analyses.
- Assist with annual audit processes by preparing documentation and responding to auditor requests.
- Prepare and file regulatory and government remittances.
- Monitor, track, and report on restricted and designated funds.
- Contribute to the development, documentation, and improvement of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Participate in financial systems improvements, automation projects, and software upgrades.
- Collaborate with departments to ensure financial accuracy and operational alignment.
- Provide backup support to accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
- Respond to internal and external financial inquiries.
- Perform other accounting duties as required.
- Support full cycle accounting for development projects, including bank reconciliations, journal entries, GL maintenance, cost recovery, AP, AR, and year-end billing.
- Prepare monthly financial statements with detailed variance analysis, account reconciliations, and ratio analysis.
- Review and analyze financial data and statements, including covenant adherence.
- Support preparation of financial reporting for the Board of Directors, funders, and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with Management to prepare annual budgets and quarterly forecasts.
- Monitor, review, and reconcile development project and operating costs budgets.
- Prepare year-end audit packages and entity-level financial statements.
- Ensure financial reporting processes are accurate, timely, and compliant with requirements.
- Oversee timely preparation and filing of all regulatory and government financial returns.
- Work collaboratively across departments to provide financial support and client service.
- Identify, support, and/or lead internal process improvements.
- Lead or support financial analysis for ad hoc initiatives.
- Contribute to cross-functional teams working on organizational priorities.
Requirements
- University Degree in Accounting/Business or equivalent work experience with a professional accounting designation.
- Minimum five years of progressive experience in accounting and/or financial analysis, preferably in a not-for-profit, construction/development, and/or real estate environment.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and internal controls.
- Ability to build strong collaborative relationships and establish rapport and credibility.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational and planning abilities to manage multiple tasks, projects, and deadlines.
- Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Excel.
- Experience and working knowledge of Yardi is an asset.
- Able to communicate fluently and effectively, both written and orally, in English.
- Able to work well with property management/site staff.
- Must be legally entitled to work in the country where this role is located.
- Successful police record check for Vulnerable Sector is required.

- May be required to travel to and work from other Neighbours locations
Work Type
- Full-time
- 35 hours per week
- Overtime work is common at budgeting time, month end, and during fiscal year end and annual audit.
