About the Role
The Manager, Strategic Pricing plays a critical role in managing the financial analytical functions of alternative fee arrangements (AFA) and client/matter profitability. This individual will be a key member of the team in devising creative alternative fee arrangements, managing the review/approval process, developing reporting capabilities, and implementing strategies for leveraging AFAs to the betterment of the Firm.
Responsibilities
- Prepare financial and pricing responses to client RFP submissions in collaboration with attorneys, the proposal team, the Senior Director and Director of Strategic Pricing, and the Finance Department.
- Develop and implement staffing and budget templates with Department and Practice Group leaders for efficient AFA development and evaluation for recurring matter types.
- Evaluate template reliability and collaborate with subject matter experts to edit templates based on findings.
- Utilize internal tools to mine information about past work investments for developing reliable budget estimates and/or AFAs for new opportunities.
- Understand various AFA types and their suitability for different legal practice areas.
- Train practice group leaders and the practice development team on pricing strategy best practices.
- Manage the approval process for pricing requests according to Firm guidelines and best practices.
- Supervise the AFA workflow process, including matter intake, financial modeling, evaluation of staffing models, and internal billing practices.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's Degree.
- 5+ years of analytical pricing work experience in a law firm environment.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate persuasively, both orally and in writing, on prepared and extemporaneous bases.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and maintain a productive and committed work effort, meeting deadlines and managing workload.
- Ability to work effectively with others in a team or cooperative environment to complete projects and achieve goals.
- A hands-on self-starter attitude with the desire, drive, and ability to establish and maintain credibility among the firm's Partners, officers, and other decision-makers.
- Ability to analyze and interpret information from various sources, applying critical and creative thinking to draw conclusions or develop solutions to complex problems.
- Ability to provide quality client service to both internal and external contacts regarding complex matters, requiring patience, creativity, and discretion.
- Demonstrated proficiency in all Microsoft Office products, specifically Excel and Access.
