About the Role

Teaching Assistants in the School Age Program are creative, energetic, career-oriented professionals motivated to educate individuals with developmental disabilities in an ungraded, self-contained classroom. Ongoing trainings and support from board-certified behavior analysts and other qualified professionals are provided to enhance career growth. This role offers valuable experience in classroom and community settings, following applied behavior analysis principles.

Responsibilities

Assist the teacher in implementing IEPs.
Collect student behavior and performance data as directed by the teacher.
Assist in conducting basic instructional activities and helping with student safety and supervision.
Attend and pass all required in-services and trainings.
Participate in performance reviews/discussions.
Accept assignments in varying classes to ensure proper student-to-staff ratios.
Adhere to all policies outlined in the School Age Program Handbook for Staff.

Requirements

High School Diploma.
Demonstrated interest in working with students with disabilities is preferable.
Experience working with children and/or individuals with disabilities is preferable.
Willingness to attend in-service training.
Willingness to obtain NYS Teaching Assistant Certification (requires at least 9 college credits after one year with a NYS Level 1 certificate).
Demonstrated good interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Ability to modify the environment to ensure child safety, including moving objects up to 20 lbs.
Ability to lift/move up to 20 lbs.
Ability to run up to 500 feet after a student.
Ability to run to a classroom in need up to 500 feet.
Ability to kneel, twist, and bend.
Ability to respond to fire alarms.
