About the Role
The Controller will be a senior member of the Cabot Management Company (CMC) finance team and a trusted partner to the Vice President, Finance. This role is responsible for the integrity of CMC's accounting and financial reporting across a multi-entity corporate structure, leading the month-end and year-end processes, and strengthening the controls, systems and routines that support a growing international management company.
Responsibilities
- Own the monthly close and financial statement reporting process for CMC and its related entities, including reconciliations, consolidation, variance analysis and supporting schedules.
- Lead the annual year-end process and coordinate the external audit, tax and statutory reporting requirements.
- Maintain strong balance sheet discipline and ensure accounting records are accurate, complete, timely and well supported.
- Oversee cash management, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll and tax compliance, with a focus on improving reliability and follow-through.
- Develop and document practical accounting policies, controls and standard operating procedures.
- Identify and implement process, system and financial reporting improvements that increase efficiency, consistency and visibility, while keeping the core accounting records and close process strong.
- Provide technical accounting guidance and hands-on support to finance teams and business leaders across Cabot’s managed operations.
- Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning and ad hoc analysis for management, while maintaining a primary focus on accounting and financial reporting.
- Help establish priorities, track commitments and ensure key finance deliverables are completed on time.
- Coach and support members of the finance team as the function continues to evolve.
Requirements
- CPA designation with strong technical accounting knowledge and sound judgement.
- Approximately 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including ownership of month-end and year-end reporting processes.
- Experience in controllership or senior accounting/finance leadership; audit experience is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to improve controls, document processes and bring order to complex or evolving environments.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong working knowledge of modern accounting and reporting systems.
- Clear and confident communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and stakeholders across the organization.
- High standards of accuracy, integrity, accountability and confidentiality.
- A practical, hands-on approach and the flexibility to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced business.
- Experience in multi-entity, international, hospitality, real estate or management company environments is an asset.
