About the Role

The Accounting Manager coordinates, directs, and works closely with a team of accounting professionals to oversee the organization's daily financial operations. This hands-on role ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial records, supports audit readiness, and ensures compliance with GAAP, leveraging Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT for complex reconciliations, fixed assets, lease accounting, investment activity, and financial reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain knowledge of current accounting principles, GAAP, and applicable government regulations.
  • Supervise, mentor, and support accounting staff.
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, increase efficiency, and strengthen internal controls.
  • Organize, coordinate, and monitor financial activities related to grants.
  • Collaborate with accounting staff, internal departments, and external funding agencies.
  • Record payroll-related accounting activity and collaborate with HR and Payroll teams.
  • Review and approve accounts payable transactions.
  • Review cash receipts and revenue transactions.
  • Manage and reconcile all corporate credit card activity.
  • Maintain government accounts receivable records.
  • Maintain the organization's fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.
  • Prepare detailed balance sheet reconciliations, analyze account activity, and record adjusting journal entries.
  • Manage accounting for lease obligations and investment portfolios.
  • Prepare for and actively participate in annual financial statement audits, Single Audits, and governmental audits.
  • Monitor financial compliance for grants, contracts, corporate contributions, and foundation funding.
  • Prepare timely and accurate financial reports for management.
  • Complete special projects and financial analyses as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Three to five years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including responsibility for fixed assets, lease accounting, and investment accounting.
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Experience performing month-end close activities, balance sheet reconciliations, and journal entries.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and nonprofit accounting software.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
  • Two or more years of supervisory or management experience (preferred).
  • Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT and Raiser's Edge (preferred).
  • Experience reporting through HHS Accelerator, Passport, or similar government financial reporting systems (preferred).
  • Experience with Paycom Payroll (preferred).
  • Experience working in a nonprofit, grant-funded environment (preferred).
  • Experience supporting annual financial statement audits and Single Audits (preferred).
  • Employment with PAL is contingent upon successful completion of all the Agency’s lawful pre-employment checks, which may include a background check.
